Scary Voices

In 1996 I moved into an apartment with a fireplace. I had just acquired two kittens, Edie & Roscoe.

Anyway, one day I was reading a book on the couch, I was the only one in the house, and the kittens were going to try to climb up the fireplace. I said "Edie,Roscoe" to stop them. A real menacing male voice said "Edie, Roscoe" back at me super sarcastic and loud. The voice sounded like it was right next to me, but again I was alone.

I stopped moving for literally 30 seconds because I was terrified and sat up and said "Who said that?" I heard back the same male menacing voice say "Edie, Roscoe" still in a really sarcastic tone but more across the room. I ran and got my neighbor, who of course found nothing and probably thought I was nuts.

The next day I was taking a shower when I heard a very loud crash. It sounded exactly as if my dresser fell over and broke. It was so loud my cat Edie jumped into the shower with me and was soaking wet. My other cat was in the bathroom peering around the door into my bedroom. I came out of the bathroom to find nothing had fallen. Based on the noise I couldn't believe it!

From that time on lights flashed on and off while I slept, I would hear people talking in the other room and found nobody there, wind would rush through the room even if no window or door was open and I would hear what sounded like someone getting in and out of my bed all the time!

Scared the heck out of me! Anyway, I've always had the feeling that the voices are real friendly and are not going to hurt me... except for the one scolding my cats!

The Good Samaritan
This happened to me 10 years ago as I was driving home at 3:00 am from a party at a friend's. As I was just leaving the lonely town where my friend lived, a hunched, old woman crossed the street right in front of my car. I stepped on the brakes and the car made a screech. The lady covered her face with her hands as if that way she could save herself from the fatal accident. I came out of the car and asked her if I could help her. Although my car didn't even touch her I could feel her shaking violently...or maybe it was me who was shaking. Anyway, I offered to take her home. In a whisper she gave me her home address; it was a few miles away. While driving I asked her some questions to calm my nerves and hers, but as she answered in a coarse voice I became more and more tense.

I grew even more restless when I caught a glimpse of her hands, clasped to her purse: they were so big and hairy! All I could think of was that I had to take this person out of my car! The chance to do so came a couple of minutes later, when I drove over a big hole in the street. I told her I felt we had a flat tire, and asked her to check it out. As soon as she got out I stepped on the accelarator, leaving the old woman behind. When my heart returned to normality, I thought of the evil thing I had done. My conscience scolded me even harder when I found that she had left her purse in the back seat. Preparing to go back and fetch her, I was curious to find out some more about this strange lady, and decided to open her purse: I almost fainted when I found a bloody axe inside.

Noisy Neighbours
The year was 1961. My parents and my older brother had just moved into a new house in a small town. It was getting towards evening when they were moving. As they got the last pieces of furniture into the house they noticed the neighbors in the house across the street. All the lights in the house were on, and children were playing outside. My mom said to herself, "it looks like we're gonna have some noisy neighbors." That night at about two in the morning my mother got up to change my brother's diaper. She heard noises from outside and as she looked out the window she saw that the children across the street were still outside, laughing and running around playing. When she went back to bed, she told my dad "honey, those children are still up, this late." Myy dad replied "their parents are probably having a party. "

My mother let it go at that and fell asleep. The next day my mother went to the landlord's to get a reciept for the rent. The landlord, who lived 2 blocks away, asked her if she liked the place. My mom told her she liked it a lot but the neighbours from across the street were kind of noisy and they were up very late. The lady replied "How strange, Mrs. Harvey, that house has been empty for years. It seems a candle was left lit during the night and the house was burnt down with the family that lived there inside." My mom could not believe it!

So she went back home and as she got near to our neighbours house she realized there was nothing but an old foundation and old burnt bedsprings. As she turned to open the door, she could hear some cheerful laughs, as from kids and other people in a party... coming right from the house across the street.

Haunted Flat
I have had many "ghostly" experiences but the scariest one was knowing someone else was there that you couldn't see.

Years ago my husband and I moved into a flat in the second floor of an old building. From the moment we moved in we felt like we were being watched by someone sitting in the gold chair in the livingroom (it came with the apartment). I would move the chair around the room and we still felt someone watching us from that chair! It was nerve wracking to say the least. I was pregnant at the time and was home during the day when my husband was working. One day I heard what sounded like an elderly woman's voice calling my name from the back bedroom in the apartment...I turned the TV up louder so I couldn't hear it. On another occasion I was talking to a friend on the phone when we heard a click, I told her someone was on her other phone listening to us. She said "I do not have another phone." So I put the phone down and walked down the hall (we had 3 phones) and checked the extra bedroom phone, it was on the hook...then I checked the phone in the master bedroom..the phone handset was laying on the bed!!!! I told my husband that the apartment was haunted and he told me I was imagining things. Two nights later he woke me up in the middle of the night and yelled for me to turn on the lights..he said someone was sitting on his side of the bed. I turned the lights on and looked, no one was there but there was an indentation on the bed. Then he believed what I had told him and, of course, we moved out of the apartment.
